Privacy Policy
Last Updated: February 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how "GokuPlr HTML5 Video Player" (the "Extension") handles information when you use it. Your privacy is important to us, and this policy aims to be transparent about our practices regarding local data processing.
1. Information We Access (Not Collected or Transmitted)
To provide enhanced video playback controls, the Extension needs to interact with specific elements on the web pages you visit. Specifically, the Extension interacts with:
- HTML5 Video Elements: The Extension detects
<video>tags on web pages to inject the custom player interface. - Media Stream URLs: The Extension identifies URLs for video streams (such as
.mp4,.m3u8, or.tssegments) to enable features like "Audio Boost" and "Download." - Page Title: The Extension reads the
document.titleto suggest a filename when you choose to download a video.
This information is processed SOLELY within your browser's memory. The Extension does not transmit this data to any external server.
2. How We Use Information
The data processed by the Extension is used exclusively for the following local functionalities:
- Interface Injection: Replacing the native browser video controls with the GokuPlr custom interface.
- Audio Processing: Using the Web Audio API to increase volume beyond 100% (Audio Booster).
- Media Extraction: Assembling media segments locally to allow you to save a video file to your computer's hard drive upon your explicit request.
- Preferences: Saving your customization settings (theme color, volume, speed) to your browser's local storage.
The Extension DOES NOT:
- Transmit video viewing history to us or any third party.
- Collect, store, or transmit any Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Analyze your browsing habits for advertising purposes.
3. Permissions Usage
The Extension requires specific permissions in Google Chrome to function. Here is why each permission is necessary:
-
host_permissions(<all_urls>): This permission is required to detect and enhance HTML5 video players on any website you visit (e.g., social media, news sites, educational platforms). Without this, the player would not appear. -
webRequest: This permission is used internally to intercept background media stream URLs. This allows the Extension to correctly identify the highest quality video source for playback and extraction without relying on the website's visual interface. -
storage: This permission is used to save your personal preferences (such as your preferred playback speed, volume level, and theme color) locally on your device. -
downloads: This permission is required to allow the Extension to save media files to your computer's "Downloads" folder when you click the download button.
4. YouTube & Google Video Policy Compliance
In strict compliance with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies regarding the downloading of YouTube content:
GokuPlr explicitly disables all media downloading functionality on YouTube.com and Google Video domains.
- The download button is programmatically hidden and disabled on these domains.
- Network interception for the purpose of downloading is disabled for YouTube URLs.
- Attempts to trigger a download on these domains will be blocked by the Extension's internal logic.
5. Data Security
Since no user data is collected or transmitted to external servers by the Extension, the security of your information relies on the security measures of your own browser and computer system. The Extension operates entirely within the secure, sandboxed environment provided by Google Chrome.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top.
You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
